THE BLESSEDNESS OF BROKENNESS

Matthew 26:7-9 (NLT)

While he was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume and poured it over his head.
The disciples were indignant when they saw this. “What a waste!” they said. “It could have been sold for a high price and the money given to the poor.”

Your Deepest Breaking Becomes Your Greatest Blessing

If you want a great blessing, expect a great testing. Great blessings go hand in hand with breaking. A person who is truly blessed is a person who is deeply broken. This person knows that everything he has come from God alone. Brokenness is not limited to physical ailments or discomfort. This is really a state of the heart. Sometimes God has to break us deeply in order for Him to cleanse our hearts from impurities. When we are broken it is easier for us to call upon God but in the good times we tend to forget where all these blessings came from. Before we know it our hearts have grown cold before God.

Do you feel that you are now going through your deepest breaking? If not, do you want to experience God’s breaking? In our verse for today, we saw how the woman broke her alabaster jar and pour all its contents on Jesus’ head. The onlookers were very angry with the woman for they did not understand how broken and pure the woman’s heart is.

1.       BROKEN PEOPLE ARE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE
The people who do not have anything to lean on to but GOD, were the ones who are beautiful in God’s sight. When we are broken, we allow the beauty of the Son of God to emanate from us. Our physical features are not that important as compared to what is inside of us as a person. That is why God has to break us in order to release what is on the inside. What is on the inside? He is the Son of God.

Isaiah 66:2 (NLT) Says, “My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine.” I, the Lord have spoken “I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who trembled of my word.”

2.       BROKEN PEOPLE ARE NOURISHING PEOPLE
Mark 6:39-44

39 Then Jesus told the disciples to have the people sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups of fifty or a hundred.
41 Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he kept giving the bread to the disciples so they could distribute it to the people. He also divided the fish for everyone to share. 42 They all ate as much as they wanted, 43 and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftover bread and fish. 44 A total of 5,000 men and their families were fed from those loaves!

If you want multiplication in your life you have to accept brokenness. That is the only way for God to multiply you. Do not resist when God wants to break you. Broken people are nourishing people because when you deal with them your spirit will be uplifted.

Broken People are like broken bread, they allow other people to feed on them.
Psalm 34:18 (NLT) “ The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed”

3.       BROKEN PEOPLE ARE VICTORIOUS PEOPLE
With God all things are possible. God only wants us to have our full trust in Him. His ways are not our ways. Even if you can’t understand it yet just surrender fully to God and He will show His Greatness and Faithfulness in your life. You do not have to defend yourself God will make you victorious still.

Judges 7: 15-22 (NLT)

“If the spirit of brokenness and calling on God ever stacks off in the Brooklyn Tabernacle, we’ll know we’re in trouble, even if we have 10,000 in attendance.”

You Are Blessed the Moment You Believe

Who are those that are truly blessed in life?
How can we measure blessing of God in a person's life?
Is it measured by how much money you have in a bank, the model of a car you are driving?
Is blessing measured by how big your house is or how high end your gadgets are?
Are these your gauge to determine your blessings?

Interestingly, the Bible gives us a different standard in measuring blessings. Quite different from standards of this material world. If you really dig into the Bible, you'll discover that the people who are truly blessed are those who have the right character, attitude, and perspective in life. You see something so good to these people that you always want to be with them. A true blessing is beyond the external.

In the sermon on the mount, Jesus started off that long sermon with: Blessed are those who are humble. Because the ones who are humbles are the one God uses as a channel of blessing. Blessed are those who have pure hearts and those who really forgive. When your heart is pure, it is impossible for you to look into the negative side because you can see that God is at working in everything.

One of the thing I discovered in the Bible is that the people who have the right heart, attitude, and character are the people who are being blessed externally as well. They do not become proud rather they became humble for they can see that God is the one allows it to happen. It will not be possible without God. The blessing of God is something very personal.

In our verse today, Jesus told His disciple, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.” John 20:29. Believing is something that comes within. It is not just a lip service. It is not affected by the external. It starts and comes from the heart. We all know that the heart is the very core of our being. Proverb 4:23 (NIV) states that, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."
This is the reason why I can say to you that you are blessed not because of answered prayers but you are blessed simply because you believe. This is the power of believing in God. I just want to give emphasis on these two points:

  1. Believing Desires a Deeper Intimacy with God
For some people God is like a genie or a magician. They want  what they pray for to happen in an instant. If the can't have it right away, they view God as a phony. God is not like that. He is not a machine or a genie. Before sin. Adam and Eve were very close to God. The moment they stopped believing in God and believed in the lies of the enemy is the time when they became separated from God.

Unbelief is the mother of all sins. It separates us from God. The bible characters who already experienced the real God, do not look into the material and external anymore. God is their biggest blessing. All they need is God. All they ask for is a deeper and closer relationship with God. Whenever we pray, is it really God we want to seek or we are after what God can give us?

   2.  Believing Develops Strength of Character.
        Romans 5:3-5 (NLT)

A person who truly believes is not disappointed. They are confident that all things that happen are actually God's will. One thing I discovered, in my life as a christian, is that when I go through tough times I never stopped believing. If you believe, trials will make you stronger. The enemy can throw bad thing to you but if you believe God will turn all things around you, for you good so that you can have the right character. and we can be a blessing to others.

There are seasons in our lives where we cannot understand the ways of the Lord. There are times when we cannot appreciate what God wants us to do. In times like these, God want us to trust in Him and to believe in Him. Abraham passed this test when God asked him to offer his only son. He just believe in God. The Lord provided Abraham with an offering and he need not to kill his son anymore. I don't know what you are going through right now. What I know is that God is there and He will provide. All you have to do is to never stop believing. When you believe, God can turn things around for your good. The blessing is in the believing.
